A Place Called Paradise

By Ray Drayton

“A great story, kept my attention throughout. I just couldn’t put the book down.
Mr Drayton I hope you will give us more books to read.”

Synopsis:

Armageddon finally descends upon earth. The thunderous noise is horrific, savagely wrenching Olivia from a pitiful sleep. Her eyes open wide in fear and confusion, feeling the hard unyielding ground shaking under her.

Louder and louder, the noise continues to thunder above her head, paralysing Olivia with mind numbing terror. Now there is nothing, only an equally fearful silence. The noise has gone as swiftly as it came. Sounds of her harsh breathing and thudding pulses fill her ears.

Tentatively, she sits up, trying to reason with unseen voices screaming in her mind.

The blind panic reluctantly subsides as a brick archway becomes visible in dim light of incoming dawn. She has been sleeping rough and recalls finding a railway bridge while seeking shelter last night. An induced drug and alcoholic haze slowly clears from her mind. The horrendous noise had been an early train passing overhead.

Just when one terror leaves – another appears, causing gut wrenching fear to return. Olivia sees two ghostly shapes emerge in the mist, walking towards her.

Desperate to escape, she tries to get to her feet but her legs give way and she collapses in a dead faint…

Haunting dreams return. Olivia hesitates on the edge of the dark abyss, just as she always does. Ghoulish whispers fervently urge her to step off and embrace an endless darkness below. Ghosts of madness appear out of the shadows, their voices gather momentum, screaming for Olivia to jump. ”One tiny step! Your grand parents are waiting beyond the darkness!!” A chilling frenzy of laughter fades into the void.

Olivia searches desperately in her mind to silence the madness. ‘Where is the magic??’ Memories of a magical childhood on Paradise Peak high in the Alps of New Zealand, beckon her to turn around but the nightmare will not release her.

Instead, memories of Olivia’s journey working in London’s glitzy fashion industry appear, erasing the dark side which hovers in her mind, threatening her sanity. A pleasurable sensation engulfs her when images of Kent, ‘the garden of England’ materialize. Miriam the gypsy who saved her life, whispers that this will be a time of healing.

Instantly Olivia feels free and turns her back on the madness devouring her sanity.

The magic will always be there, waiting for her return…
